Channel Island Harbor is a large harbor located just southwest of Oxnard. It is home to thousands of boat docks, homes and commercial businesses, including the Ventura County Maritime Museum. The southern part of the harbor is mainly home to boat marinas and commercial businesses. The northern part of the harbor consists of residential communities which are divided by canals, linked with bridges. The residential canals are a great place to go paddling even on windier days since the houses can shelter paddle craft from the wind. Here, you can paddle past well manicured gardens and home fronts while enjoying views of the hills in the distance and fresh ocean air.
There are outfitters in the harbor that also run trips to the Channel Islands. Visiting the clear, pristine waters and hiking trails of these islands is definitely a must for those in the Ventura area.
Air temperature in Channel Island Harbor ranges from the 50s to mid 60s in the winter and the 70s to low 80s in the summer. Be careful when paddling near the exit of the harbor as the entrances are rather small and boat traffic must be accounted for. Planning your paddling trip for the morning will ensure that you encounter the least wind and traffic while out on the water.
