Skill Requirements for Trips

Recreation Level Recreation Level trips are for anyone who thinks kayaking is fun. If you have never paddled before, we'll show you enough skills to make your boat go where you want it to and have fun along the way. We paddle six to eight still-water miles per day, usually on flat, calm water. You just have to be active and excited about a full day's exercise in the outdoors. Children 13 years and up are welcome with an adult.
Trips include: Santa Cruz Island Caves(1, 2, and 3-Day), Colorado Camping - Topock Trips

Tour Level Tour Level trips are faster paced than our Recreation Level trips. While conditions are generally calm, we will cover eight to ten miles per day. The ability to paddle efficiently and do reverse, sweep and draw strokes, and execute assisted re-entries and recoveries are important skills, as taught in the First Strokes class.
Trips include: Canyons of the Colorado River Trip.

Sport Level Sport Level trips require the ability to paddle through wind, rough seas and surf. We cover 8-12 "open ocean" miles per day at a spirited pace. Solo re-entry, surf-landing and being "sea-sick proof" required, as taught in our Sea Legs or Intensive Weekend courses.
Trips include: Santa Cruz to Anacapa trip.
