Looking for a fun group activity, or peaceful adventure? Kayak rentals are a great opportunity for you to practice paddling skills and to enjoy a fun outdoor excursion with family, friends, significant others, coworkers, groups, or even pets in the relaxing atmosphere of Upper Newport Bay!
Our competitive rental rates start as low as $14 / hour or $50 / day.Kayak and canoe rentals are offered on-the-water at our Newport Beach Rental Base and at our Irvine Store.
- Normally offered on a first-come, first-serve basis

- Single and double sit-insides, sea kayaks, sit-on-tops, and pedal boats available

- Rental Policies
If you would like to request a specific kayak model on reserve for your rental, please call our store (949-261-0200) at least ONE (1) day in advance to make your request. Our rental staff will do their best to reserve the selected kayaks for you upon arrival.

Privately-Booked Group Rentals and Rates

Many people do group rentals as a fun way to bond, team-build, and experience the great scenery of Newport Back Bay and fantastic weather in Southern California together! So bring your friends, family, coworkers, club, or group!

Storage Rates
Store your kayak at our Newport Rental Base.
- Easy access to both Newport Bay and Harbor!
- No more loading and unloading from your car!
- Rental boats are on site for friends to join you!
- Friendly staff to assist you.
- You lock your own boat.
- Your boat is available during regular open hours.
Under 26" wide - $35 per month, $30/month if you prepay three months.
Over 26" wide - $45 per month, $40/month if you prepay three months.
$100 Rental Credit toward Purchase!
We will credit you up to $100 toward the purchase of a new or used boat over $400.
Credit will be applied for rental charges incurred during the 30 days prior to your
boat purchase, one rental per day per boat purchased.
Rental Cancellation Policy
- Rental reservations are held when full payment is received.
- Advance payment by check or credit card helps you get on the water faster.
- A $10 cleaning fee will be charged for any boat not returned in clean condition.
- Each paddler must sign a liability release and statement of responsibility before taking a boat. A parent must sign for anyone under 18.
- While Southwind is not responsible for evaluating a paddler's skill or ability, or determining their route and destination, we reserve the right to refuse rentals to those individuals whose skills do not seem suitable for their intended outing.
Boats from the Kayak Center may be used on bays, lakes, and ocean, but never on whitewater rivers or at the Channel Islands. Kayak Center rentals: Cancellations within 7 days of the rental start date result in loss of the rental fee; cancellations made at least 8 days before the rental result in either a full credit toward a future rental, or in a refund less a 25% fee.
Rental Base Boats are for in-harbor, day use only and may not be car-topped. Cancellations or no-shows within 24 hours of a reservation's start time result in loss of the rental fee. Cancellations more than 24 hours in advance will receive full credit toward a future rental. Sorry, no refunds.
