Job Openings - Rental and Store Staff

Southwind Kayak Center has been involved in teaching kayaking lessons and leading tours since 1987. Our efforts have earned us a reputation of excellence from both the local paddling community and the national kayaking industry. In 1993, we opened our retail store in Irvine, CA, which has one of the largest inventories of kayaks and accessories on the West Coast. One of our main goals has been to enhance the experience of all paddlers by being an extensive resource to the kayaking community, helping new paddlers learn the sport and advancing experienced paddlers towards new challenges.

If you have an interest in kayaking (or have a desire to learn and share your experiences of the sport with others), water sports, and you enjoy working outdoors, then we have positions that may suit you. As part of our rental and store staff, you will have the opportunity to learn and be exposed to the world of kayaking; in addition, you will get the opportunity to teach others a thing or two about kayaking - from working at our rental location to assisting on guided trips - and further enhance their paddling experience. Whether you're new to kayaking or have had prior experiences in kayaking, we will provide you with the necessary training for this position, helping you develop basic skills and expanding your kayaking knowledge so that you can succeed. We are looking for candidates who are enthusiastic about the sport, friendly and attentive to our customers' needs, and flexible hours will be offered. Previous experience in kayaking is a plus, but not required. General Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Introduce customers to kayaking and Southwind Kayak Center
  • Managing rental reservations along with organizing customer paperwork
  • Assist paddlers at our rental location in maximizing their paddling experience
  • Teach basic kayaking skills to customers when necessary
  • General maintenance of kayaks and our rental base

Qualifications, Skills, and Experiences

  • Strong communication skills along with a friendly, out-going, and positive personality.
  • Strength and ability to regularly move kayaks and equipment.
  • Organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Self-motivated individual who has a desire to learn and talk to customers, and is capable of successfully accomplishing tasks both independently or as part of a team.
  • Availability of transportation to our rental base and store locations in Newport Beach and Irvine, respectively.
  • Some previous experience and skills with kayaking or outdoor activities is a PLUS.
