On-the-water kayak and SUP try outs!
Two different Demo events
Our "Discover Paddlesports" events are great opportunities to see what Paddlesports are all about. Grab your family and friends
and join us on one of these free opportunities to discover kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding. Our instructors will provide some
basic instruction to help you get going. We’ll put out 25+ kayaks, both touring and open-top, single and double, along with a variety
of quality paddles on the water so you'll have a wide range of boats to try . Enjoy chatting with Southwind staff members about the best
and most innovative boats and paddling gear!

The "Paddlesports Try-Out Sessions" are designed to suit the need of paddlers that need a little help selecting the right boat
to purchase. Once you’ve worked your prospective boat list down to a couple of boats, you can pre-select the boats you really want to
compare. Our instructors will be on hand to help you sort out the unique features of each boat. They will coach you on how to put each
kayak through its paces, so you’ll go home with the right kayak. Each participant can request two kayaks he wishes to compare; he is
welcome to try out other kayaks if they are available. Each two hour sessions is limited to 6 paddlers, so you’ll receive lots of
personal attention. You should come prepared to learn about kayak performance, to get wet and have fun.
Cost is $20 per session (which can be applied to purchase of a kayak) and advanced reservations are required.

These events are two great ways to learn about and to get started on kayaking. You can also try kayaks in a lesson or on a trip, or by requesting a specific model we may carry when you rent from the Kayak Center or from our Newport Rental Base.
No event reservations or prior experience necessary.

Paddlesports Try-Out Sessions are intended for those looking try-out boats they are interested in purchasing. - When: Usually once a month (see Events Schedule)
- Where: Southwind's Newport Rental Base (see below; click for map/directions)
- Who: Any paddlers who are interested in buying a kayak or canoe but would first like to get a feel for boats on-the-water.
- What to Bring: We will supply paddles and PFDs, but you may bring your own.
