Kayak Back to Nature Join us for three hours of paddling as we learn about the birds, sea animals, and geology of Upper Newport Bay ecological reserve. Upper Newport Bay is the home of over 200 bird species (over 30,000 birds can be seen on any given day) and is also a home for mammals, fish, plants, and other critters. The reserve is an estuary (a site where fresh-water and salt-water combine), a result of a purchase of 527 acres of land from the Irvine Company in 1975.
We'll show you the paddling skills you need to enjoy cruising local harbors. You can stay warm and dry in our sleek and comfortable touring kayaks or select a fun sit-on-top kayak. Both single and double kayaks are available. Suitable for first-time paddlers and those with basic skills. Add a waterproof map for $6.50! Age 9+ (parent required if between ages 9-13).

Mother's Day Bay Paddle Mother's Day is the time to give back to our Moms the love and care which they showered on us throughout our lives. Our Mother's Day paddle on the calm waters of scenic Newport Harbor is an excellent opportunity to show Mom how much we care. And for even more family fun, water-safe children (3 years+) are welcome on this unique outdoor adventure, using double kayaks capable of accommodating one or two adults and a small child.
Launching from our Newport Rental Base, we will take a leisurely paddle through some of the best portions of the bay, with occasional stops to share some facts and history of the area, while keeping our eyes and ears tuned for possible encounters with marine critters such as birds, seals and sea lions. Then, having worked up an appetite, we will land at one of the available beaches for a relaxing no-host picnic. Rested and refueled, we'll launch once again for our paddle back to the Rental Base.
Southwind will provide the kayaks and paddling gear, plus a short introductory paddling lesson. We will use comfortable, easy-to-paddle 2-person and single kayaks for a safe and enjoyable day on the bay. No previous kayaking experience is required.

Fourth of July Fireworks Paddle Night paddling is one of the most pleasurable activities you can do in a kayak or canoe. And of course, fireworks are always a high-point of any traditional Fourth of July / Independence Day celebration. What could be better than to combine both, by watching the fireworks this Fourth of July from a kayak in calm and scenic Newport Back Bay? This is a great way to celebrate with family and friends (new or old) as you share some healthy outdoor exercise. Not only is it a fun adventure, but we also get the best seats in the house from which to enjoy the festivities, and... No parking hassle!
Launching from our Newport Rental Base, we will take a leisurely paddle into the Back Bay, exploring the area and checking out the birds as time and energy levels permit. Then we will scout-out a prime viewing spot, nose our craft up into vegetation along the bank, and relax as we are entertained by the fireworks exploding above.
