How to learn about kayaks ...

Enjoy a seminar, go to a Fun and Free try-out day, use your favorite kayak in a lesson or on a trip, rent one from the Kayak Center or from our Newport Rental Base.

About once a month we host a fun morning when you, your friends and family are welcome to demo lots of boats and paddles so you'll know which gear is right for you. We put out 20+ kayaks, both touring and open-top, single and double, and a variety of fine paddles. Enjoy chatting with Southwind instructors and guides about the newest and best in paddling gear! You can call a few days ahead to request particular boats to try if you've already narrowed your choice. No reservations or prior experience necessary. Call first to confirm date, time and location!

Demo and seminars are FREE (pay for parking only)
8:30 AM - 12:00 PM
9:30 AM - Choosing your kayak talk
10:30 - Skills demonstration

Fun & Free Demo Mornings are generally at either Newport Dunes or Newport Rental Base, see maps below. Please call us at 1-800-SOUTHWIND for more information.

Location #1 - Newport Dunes 1131 Back Bay Drive Newport Beach, CA Parking Costs - $10 per car at the Dunes. Kayaks are on the beach near the parking. Park near the launch ramp and walk to the wooden bridge. Demos are usually on the near (East) side at the base of the bridge.

Location #2 - Newport Rental Base

Once again, Southwind's Demo Mornings are FREE!

You'll learn all the technical information you need to make an easy decision about selecting a kayak and gear. We'll answer your questions about design, performance, materials, construction, and prices. Bring your note pad and take home brochures and ideas galore. RSVP. FREE 6:30 pm on select Wednesdays at the Kayak Center
